Background
On November 8, voters decide on a referendum for the Peshtigo School District on the general election ballot. The District has tried for a school referendum to remodel or build a new school before. Unfortunately, there were not enough ‘yes’ votes to make it happen.
Extensive Repairs Needed to Existing Facility - In summer 2020, a facility study confirmed extensive repairs are needed at the Peshtigo Middle/High School, including heating and cooling, electrical, plumbing, safety and security, and updates to interior finishes, such as casements, ceiling tiles, etc. Additionally, several spaces throughout the school need renovation to be adequate for today’s learning needs, such as the technical education (shop) areas, performance space, and science areas.

93% of the community respondents said they support a referendum to address the facility needs of our Middle/High School.
Why Does the District Need to Pass a Referendum?
Legally, the only way the District can finance a major capital project, such as the needed repairs and renovations, is with voter approval. Each year that goes by without the necessary and significant repairs means that our students are missing out on opportunities.
What is the Board Seeking?
The Peshtigo School District is seeking $39.95 million to extensively renovate the existing Middle/High School.

Why Does Your Vote Matter?
The facility's needs will not go away until they are addressed.
If the referendum succeeds, it will provide our students with a reinvigorated Middle/High School. This is not a band-aid solution: It addresses essential mechanical and infrastructure needs while fully updating the building to serve our students for decades.
If it does not pass, the referendum is not approved, and the Board of Education may need to take funds needed for the day-to-day operations of the school and use those funds to instead repair boilers, roofs, ventilation equipment, etc.
