McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act
A homeless child or youth lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence due to economic hardship.
Established in 2002 as part of the No Child Left Behind Act, this service entitles homeless children to free, appropriate public education (including pre-school education). State must ensure children have equal access to the same public programs as other children in state.
Every student in a homeless situation will be designated a liaison.
The liaison must ensure that homeless children are identified, immediately enrolled in school, informed about educational rights, and receive educational services for which they're eligible.
